To create a conversion kit for Standup Paddle Board users to make paddling more accessible and fun.
ESUP is a conversion kit for standard Paddle boards designed to give riders more flexibility in terms of speed, range, and also make it more accessible for those with limited strength or recovering from injuries. This product also serves as a recreational device and can provide a fun time with family or friends. Other applications also include last-mile transport from a vessel moored away in the harbor to the shore.
This project is being completed as my senior design capstone project, along with 3 other engineers. My involvement in this project include:
The main features of this design are a fin/rudder assembly and a battery enclosure pack that rests on top of the board near the user. That enclosure must be impermeable to water and can hold the main battery and other sensitive electronic components
Speed and range targets were set, and based on power calculations, a suitable outrunner brushless DC motor was selected.
The targets set by the team were 10km/hr for 0.5 hours and 5km/hr for 4 hours.
